The Assessment — 60-Minute Sports Medicine Evaluation | The Athlete Spot

Where Every Plan Starts

The Assessment

60 minutes. One doctor. A real diagnosis and a real plan — not a 15-minute visit with a generic handout.

Sound Familiar?

You’ve Already Been Somewhere.
And It Didn’t Work.

You walked in. Someone skimmed your chart. You got 10 minutes with one person, handed off to another, and left with a sheet of exercises pulled from a drawer. Maybe they told you to come back three times a week for six weeks. Maybe they didn’t even tell you what was wrong.

That’s not an assessment. That’s a checkout line.

At The Athlete Spot, you get 60 uninterrupted minutes with the doctor who will treat you. No rushing. No hand-offs. No guessing. You leave knowing exactly what’s wrong and exactly what we’re going to do about it.

Your 60 Minutes

What Happens During The Assessment

Every minute is spent finding out what’s actually going on — and building a plan to fix it.

01
Detailed History

When it started, what makes it worse, what you’ve already tried, and what your goals are. Not a clipboard questionnaire — a real conversation about your body and your sport.

02
Movement Testing

Sport-specific screens to identify restrictions, compensations, and weaknesses. We test how you move — not just where it hurts.

03
Tissue Loading

We test how your body handles weight at different angles and speeds. That tells us exactly where it holds up — and where it gives out.

04
Real-Time Imaging

Point-of-care ultrasound lets us see your tendons, muscles, and nerves on screen in real time. When your case calls for it, we use it right here — no referral, no waiting.

05
Diagnosis

A clear explanation of what’s wrong and why. Not a vague label. You’ll know what happened, what’s keeping it from healing, and what has to change.

06
Your Plan

You leave knowing exactly what to do, why you’re doing it, and what’s coming next. Your program evolves as you do — so you never plateau and nothing falls through the cracks. Honest timeline. No sales pitch. No visit package.

The Difference

Not All First Visits Are Equal

Most Clinics
15 minutes with a provider who’s already behind schedule
Brief exam, generic diagnosis, told to come back 3x/week
Handed off to a tech or assistant for treatment
Same exercises everyone else gets
Separate referral needed for imaging
Insurance dictates the plan
You leave with more questions than answers
The Athlete Spot
60 minutes with Dr. Kauffman — no interruptions
Thorough assessment, specific diagnosis, honest timeline
One doctor performs everything — no hand-offs
You never plateau — your program evolves before you stall
Every visit is targeted — Dr. K already knows what changed
Point-of-care ultrasound available during your visit
You leave knowing exactly what’s wrong and what to do

Who It’s For

The Assessment Is for You If…

You don’t have to be broken to book. You just have to want answers.

You’re in Pain

Shoulder, elbow, back, knee, hip — something hurts and nobody’s told you why. You want a real diagnosis, not another guess.

You’ve Tried Everything

PT. Chiro. Rest. Ice. Stretching. Nothing’s worked. You’re ready for someone to actually figure out the problem.

You’re Post-Surgical

You had surgery and you need structured rehab to get back to full function — not three months of band exercises.

You Want to Train Harder

Something’s holding you back — a tight spot, a nagging issue, a weakness you can’t train around. You want to fix it before it becomes an injury.

You’re a Youth Athlete

Growing bodies have different needs. Your parent wants a thorough assessment — not a 5-minute check-the-box visit.

You Want a Second Opinion

You’ve been told you need surgery, injections, or long-term treatment — and you want someone to take a hard look before you commit.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What happens during The Assessment?

You get 60 minutes one-on-one with Dr. Kauffman. He takes a full history, tests how you move, and tests how your body handles weight. When your case calls for it, he uses point-of-care ultrasound to see your muscles, tendons, and nerves in real time. You leave with a diagnosis and a clear plan — not a guess and not a generic handout.

How is this different from a regular first visit?

Most first visits are 15 minutes with a provider who already has another patient waiting. You get a brief exam, a generic diagnosis, and a plan to come back three times a week. The Assessment is 60 minutes with no interruptions. Dr. Kauffman performs the assessment, builds the plan, and delivers the treatment. No assistants. No hand-offs.

Do I need a referral?

No. Missouri allows direct access — book directly. No referral, no physician gatekeeping, no paperwork chain. If we determine you need imaging or a surgical consult, we tell you at your assessment with a clear reason why.

Do I have to be injured to book?

No. Many athletes book The Assessment to find tight spots, injury risks, and what’s holding them back — before something breaks down. Whether you’re in pain or just want to train smarter, you’ll leave with a clear picture of where you stand.

What should I wear?

Wear clothes you can move in — shorts, t-shirt, athletic wear. Bring any imaging you already have (X-rays, MRIs). No other preparation needed. Show up ready to move.

Do you accept insurance?

No. We are cash-based. This allows Dr. Kauffman to spend the full 60 minutes focused on your problem without insurance dictating your care. Most patients find they get better faster and spend less overall than months of covered visits that don’t fix anything.

What happens after The Assessment?

You leave knowing what’s wrong. You know what we’re doing about it. You know what to do between visits. Your program starts right away and adjusts as you improve — so you never stall and nothing gets missed. If you need imaging or a specialist, we tell you exactly why and where to go. No mystery. No waiting around.
